Mediation Services
A practical alternative to traditional divorce proceedings, mediation is a facilitated, collaborative negotiation process. It is significantly lower in cost and has a highly flexible timetable, it’s no wonder why an increasing number of people prefer mediation over lengthy and cumbersome court appearances. Another significant advantage of mediation is that it’s a confidential process, unlike typical legal actions, which remain in the public record.
At CMG Mediation and Family Services, each case is customized to meet your family’s needs. Parents meet with a trained divorce mediator at the first consultation, and parents and mediator work together to agree on the scope, objectives, and commitment to the process. Over the course of the next several sessions, typically 3-4 meetings, the mediator helps you to identify concerns and focus on issues impacting your family. The mediator then helps you create multiple options for cooperative resolution and helps you put together a final agreement that meets the needs of your family and child(ren). The terms of the settlement will be spelled out by the mediator in a Memorandum of Agreement, which is then used to draft a joint petition to be filed with the Court. If neither of you has an attorney when you begin mediation, and choose not to have attorney representation, CMG Mediation works with several attorneys who charge a reasonable flat fee to draft the joint petition. Depending on your situation, you both may need to attend a brief default hearing before the divorce is finalized
Throughout the process, we assist couples in communicating their viewpoints regarding their co-parenting, assets, liabilities, and future support. Our goal is to empower you to make your own important life decisions, rather than having a judge or attorney decide your future. Our experience has been that when both parents begin the separation process in a respectful and collaborative setting, and both contribute to the solution, the tone is set for respectful co-parenting and a better likelihood of a long-term positive outcome for everyone involved.
